Organic Foods Demystified

There is a buzz about organic products and a number of people prefer to choose organic foods over normal foods which may be processed.

But there are still times where one may be caught unaware about what organic foods are. Let’s take a closer look at what makes a food organic, and how is it different from normal processed foods.

If a food has been marked as organic, this implies that it has been manufactured, produced and handled as per organic standards. These standards are certified by international bodies. Just as an example United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) certifies organic foods under Organic Foods Products Act.

When you go for Organic food, it is an assurance of quality. Organic food seals are guaranteed by the national governments.

One of the primary differentiating factors between organic food and normal processed food is that organic food is grown or processed using fewer artificial means. But these means are nevertheless beneficial for maintaining nutrition of a food item.

Using the ‘Organic’ label too may have legal implications. A manufacturer is not authorized to use the label if a food is not certified by a recognized authorizing agency.

So whenever one sees the organic label on a food packet, it specifies that the foodstuff has been manufactured and processed after following a specified set of rules and regulations.

Organic foods come with a host of health benefits for users. Correspondingly, demand for organic foods too has been increasing by the year, at all places in the world.
